The movie I’d like to talk about is "The Social Network", a biographical drama based on the creation of Facebook and the life of Mark Zuckerberg. It’s a film that dives deep into the origins of one of the world’s most influential social media platforms. The story showcases how Zuckerberg, a brilliant but painfully shy Harvard student, conceived the idea of Facebook, worked tirelessly to bring it to life, and navigated the intense legal and personal conflicts that followed its success. The narrative highlights his go-getter nature, leadership qualities, and relentless determination, but it also portrays the ethical dilemmas and strained relationships that came with his meteoric rise to fame.
I watched this film about two years ago with my brother Movlon, who is an IT programmer, just like me. We decided to watch it at night in the Education Center where we often study and write code together. The movie trailer had already piqued our interest, and since the film is based on a true story, we knew it would be both engrossing and inspiring.
I’d say I had mixed feelings about the movie. On one hand, I absolutely admired Mark Zuckerberg’s go-getter mindset and ability to pull a rabbit out of a hat by creating something revolutionary. The film’s leading role was played brilliantly by Jesse Eisenberg, who captured Zuckerberg’s fiercely loyal attitude toward his vision and his brutally honest personality. This part really resonated with us as programmers. After watching the movie, my brother and I were so inspired that we stayed up all night brainstorming and coding, trying to step up our game. On the flip side, though, there were controversial topics in the film—particularly scenes that focused on the negative aspects of Facebook, like its misuse for shallow connections and its role in popularizing inappropriate content. Those parts felt unnecessary to me and detracted from the film’s overall message.
I chose to discuss this movie because it’s incredibly relevant to my life and career. Being a programmer myself, I could relate to the crunch time and endless hours Zuckerberg spent on his project. It reminded me that, as a developer, you need to go the extra mile to turn your ideas into reality. Beyond that, the movie’s opening and closing scenes left a profound impression on me. The opening showed a young man filled with ambition, and the ending showed the costs of success—a lesson I believe every entrepreneur and innovator can learn from.
To sum it up, The Social Network is more than just a movie; it’s a box-office hit that speaks volumes about ambition, perseverance, and the price of innovation. For anyone in the tech field or aspiring to create something meaningful, it’s a must-watch.
