The tables display the sales of fair trade coffee and bananas in five European countries in 1999 and 2004.
Overall, the sales of coffee increased in all five countries over the five-year period. However, while banana sales grew in most countries, Belgium and Sweden saw a decline.
In 1999, Switzerland had the highest sales of coffee at 3 million euros, which doubled to 6 million by 2004. However, the UK had the biggest increase, rising from 1.5 million euros to 20 million. Other countries had much smaller growth, with Denmark increasing from 1.8 to 2 million, Belgium from 1 to 1.7 million, and Sweden from 0.8 to 1 million euros.
For bananas, the UK had the highest sales in both years, increasing from 15 million to 47 million euros. Switzerland and Denmark also saw notable rises, reaching 5.5 million and 4 million euros, respectively. Meanwhile, Belgium and Sweden experienced a decline, with sales dropping from around 2 million to approximately 1 million euros.
